Signal & WhatsApp Bridges

Use your Signal and WhatsApp contacts directly inside tjena!chat. Choose a cloud-hosted bridge for convenience, or a local bridge that keeps end-to-end encryption fully intact.

Cloud Bridge

E2EE broken on server
  • Runs on the tjena!chat server — always available
  • Messages synced across all your logged-in devices
  • Multiple accounts per network supported
  • Receives messages even when your phone is off

Local Bridge (in-app)

E2EE fully preserved
  • Runs entirely on your device inside the tjena!chat app
  • Messages are only on the one device running the bridge
  • Lower ban risk — WhatsApp/Signal see your local IP, not a shared server IP
  • Multiple accounts per network supported
  • App must be running to receive messages

WhatsApp Bridge — Known Limitations

The mautrix-whatsapp bridge (used by both cloud and local implementations) does not yet support all WhatsApp features:

  • Voice and video calls are not bridged
  • WhatsApp Status / Stories are not bridged
  • Polls are not relayed
  • WhatsApp Channels and Newsletters are not supported
  • Disappearing messages are delivered but the timer is not enforced
  • View-once media is received, but the view-once restriction is not enforced
  • Some sticker types may not display correctly
  • WhatsApp Business features (catalogs, products) are not supported
