About us
We are a Swiss association committed to open and private digital communication.
Our Mission
The BiVi association was founded by a group of developers and privacy enthusiasts who share a common belief: everyone deserves communication tools that respect their privacy — regardless of technical ability or financial means.
We run tjena!chat, a messaging service built on the open Matrix protocol. tjena!chat is free to use and developed without any commercial interest in user data.
What we do
- Operate tjena!chat as a messaging service based on Matrix
- Maintain server infrastructure for our users
- Promote open communication standards and digital privacy
- Advocate for interoperability and independence from large corporations
Why Matrix?
The Matrix protocol is an open standard for decentralised, secure communication. It enables:
- Interoperability: Users on different Matrix servers can communicate with each other
- No vendor lock-in: Your account belongs to you — switch servers any time
- Decentralisation: No single provider controls the entire conversation
- Client freedom: Use tjena!chat or any other Matrix-compatible client
Our Values
Privacy
We collect only the minimum data needed to operate our service. We do not sell data and run no advertising.
Openness
We rely on open standards. The Matrix protocol that tjena!chat is built on is publicly documented and available to everyone.
Accessibility
Digital privacy should not be a privilege. tjena!chat is free and simple enough for everyone.
Community
We are a volunteer-driven association. Decisions are made together.
The Team
The association is run by a small, dedicated team of volunteers.
